The world is full of fascinating destinations — especially if you’re a photographer. Not only do you get to experience them in person, but you can preserve them forever through the pictures you take.
Need some inspiration for your next trip? I’ve got you covered. Here are six of the best destinations all photographers should visit.
1. Borneo
Borneo is one of the most remote places in the world, offering a chance to capture sights most people will never see in their lifetime. Head to the rainforest to view an astonishing variety of flora and fauna, including critically endangered animals like the orangutan. Definately on my wish list for amazing wildlife shots!
2. Dubai
Dubai is fascinating because the skyline is changing constantly — new buildings go up all the time and they’re always looking to push the boundaries. Just look at the record-breaking height of the Burj Khalifa.
Then there’s the contrast of the surrounding desert and the wide, open landscape, with rolling sand dunes for miles and miles. Make the most of the variety, and be careful when you’re taking pictures (there are some areas where photography is forbidden and you must have permission from any people you wish to take pictures of). Especially for drone photography, since it is such a perfect location for aerial shots!
3. Croatia
Although it’s best known these days as a filming location for Game of Thrones, Croatia is so much more than that. Its Mediterranean islands boast incredible preserved architecture (including those distinctive orange rooftops), peaceful natural spots and coastlines with the bright blue waters of the Adriatic. There’s something to see both during the day and at night, so keep your camera with you!
4. Mongolia
Is landscape photography your thing? Head to Mongolia, where blue skies, sunshine and mountains, not to mention excellent light, will give you plenty of opportunities to snap away. Between 30 and 40% of the population lead a nomadic lifestyle, so you’ll also be able to learn about an entirely different way of living from one of the friendliest countries on the planet. 1Cover’s Secret Traveller recommends visiting the national park Terelj for the full experience.
5. Sweden
The subtle changes in the seasons and the huge variety in the scenery means you’ll never be stuck for ideas in Sweden. Whether you prefer built up cityscapes or capturing the natural world, this Scandinavian wonder is sure to impress. I’ve only visited Stockholm (twice, once in summer and once in winter), and I plan to see the rest of the country.
6. Vietnam
Vietnam is a curious place where culture is meticulously preserved, which gives you the feeling that you’re capturing a moment from history. Tradition is important, so make sure you’re respectful, but the Vietnamese are very welcoming and normally happy to help you learn more about their culture.
